  • Formed in the balmy climes of the Caribbean, The Transatlantic Hot Club was founded by Ben Creighton Griffiths (Harp) and Adrien Chevalier (Violin) in 2013 whilst both performing at ‘Journées de la Harpe’, a festival that takes place on the islands of Martinique, Guadeloupe, St Anne, and St Lucia, and in French Guyana. Apart from having since returned to that festival,  the group has been featured in many of the foremost jazz venues and festivals of the United Kingdom over the past decade. Their sound is a heady mix of gypsy and jazz influences and they present a unique force in terms of jazz harp today.

We are delighted that as they embark on their Summer tour, they will make a stop at the Espace Camac, bringing all their colour, fire and irresistible rhythm to the Parisian evening! Confirm your attendance here: June 8, 7pm-  Don’t miss it!

  • Sylvain Blassel and Nikolaz Cadoret are both masters within their respective musical spheres. Blassel as conductor, performer, analyst and teacher; Cadoret as Breton traditional musician, improvisor and innovator. You can hear them both, as well as gaining from their vast expertise at the Camac Harp Days in Munich (15-17 June 2023)

In addition to an unmissable solo recital by Blassel, and a dynamic trad’modern performance by Cadoret, both artists will give masterclasses and courses.  Please download the full programme to find out more – don’t miss this opportunity, both to hear and learn from two outstanding French artists !

  • Ircam is one of Paris’ most iconic musical centres: a place considered a temple to the intersection of music and electronic innovation.

Commissioned by that institution, and after an intense period of collaboration , Parker Ramsay (harp) and the American composer Josh Levine present Anyway : a new work of ambition and stunning dimensions.

Drawing on fragments of such richly ornamented pieces as Froberger’s Tombeau(1652) de Froberger sur la mort de Monsieur Blancrocher, the American composer Josh Levine imagines a musical monument akin to those that emerged from composers of 17th century France.

As befits Ircam, complex electronics, tunings and techniques of distortion will ‘destabilise the timbre and intonation of the harp’. Combined with external sounds from nature, the harp and electronics will work in symbiosis with the space itself, to create a fascinating musical whole.

To our great pride, the premier will be achieved using our Camac Big Blue, taking its place at the cutting edge of musical innovation as it was always meant to.

Complementing this premiere are Michael Jarrell’s Offrande, and a further premiere by David Fulmer, incorporating a chorale by J.S. Bach.

This concert is part of the ManiFeste festival (7 june- 1 july). Click here to reserve your tickets direct from the venue.

  • Collegium 21 is that rarest of birds: a competition open from beginner to advanced levels, entirely dedicated to contemporary music. It is a fantastic chance for even the youngest harpists to experience the music of living composers – and even work with them face to face in masterclasses.

Held every two years, the competition takes place in two stages. In 2023, the first stage will be on June 3 and 4 at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Regional in Paris. This first weekend is the masterclass one, where competitors can work on the set pieces with their composers. The competition publishes videos of all the masterclasses online, in the wish to diffuse the experience of new music as widely as possible. 2023’s invited composers are Kaija Saariaho, Martin Matalon, Ivane Béatrice Bellocq, Alexandros Markeas, Séverine Ballon, Hélène Breschand, Gregory Vajda, Fuminori Tanada, Liao Lin-Ni, Grégoire Rolland, Alexandre Jamar and Jean-Yves Bosseur.

A couple of weeks later, June 17-18, the competition itself takes place in the same location.

The most senior prizes also offer some super professional opportunities. The Marius Constant Prize will be engaged to perform with the Ars Nova ensemble, and mentored by its harpist to prepare a world premier of a new work. The Prix ProQuartet offers a further engagement in Paris during the 2023-24 season.

All information is available on the competition website.

  • The virtues and principles of the French school of harp-playing remain world famous; a byword for excellence at the harp. Therefore, we take great pride in supporting our friends at the Hong Kong Harp Chamber, as they present two of France’s greatest harpists, Isabelle Moretti and Mélanie Laurent. This will take the form of  a week-long Camac academy, wherein these two supreme artists will work with students both in masterclasses and in private lessons; they will share their expertise based on years of precious experience.

This week of inspirational teaching will be crowned with a concert, a chance to experience these musicians in practice, under the banner of the prestigious ‘French May’ Arts Festival. This recital will be preceded by a chance to discover more about French harp artistry, with a lecture on the history of French harp making with Jakez François.

We urge you to get in touch with the Hong Kong Harp Chamber in order to reserve your place for this unmissable opportunity.

  • We are delighted to share details of the Rave Harps International Prestige Award 2023 (Chamber Music). This terrific enterprise gives  young pedal and lever harpists the opportunity to perform and compete in a wide range of combinations, and demonstrate the importance of making music in the ensemble context. For audiences this will be an opportunity both to experience some first-rate performances and to support a new generation of harpists.

This will culminate in a fabulous winner’s concert under the rather thrilling banner of ‘Harp Rumba’, where the winners of each section will share their repertoire with the public.

This will be followed by an eclectic mix of Latin-themed music performed by the International Harp Orchestra led by Artistic Director Katryna Tan. The acclaimed harpist Mieko Inoue (Japan) will appear as a guest performer.

Tickets for both exciting events are available here.

  • The second Helsinki harp festival is part of a flowering of such festivals in the Scandinavian region. The theme of this year’s festival is wellbeing, with sound healing performances, movement and pilates lessons, and ergonomic coaching by physiotherapists aimed at harpists of all levels.

There will be performances and masterclasses among more traditional lines, including such artists as Isabelle Perrin and Sivan Magen. The festival will also host the live rounds of both the Helsinki Harp competition and the Lily Kajanus-Blenner competition. The latter memorialises the great Finnish harpist and showcases Finnish harpists aged 15-19 years.

If the theme of the festival is ‘wellness’ then our local clients can attend to the wellbeing of their harps! Our technician will be in attendance to offer free regulation of Camac harps, as well as an exhibit of our harps for your approbation.

For more information, please visit the festival website. To ask about a regulation for your Camac harp, please contact [email protected]
