January 8, 2016
Brazilian blue harp sensation Cristina Braga will be teaching and performing at L’Espace Camac!
Cristina is one of Brazil’s best-known harpists and singers. Classically trained, she is principal harpist with the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Theatre Symphony Orchestra, and is also Professor at the Music School of the Federal University of Rio. She is also a champion of Brazilian music on the harp, and has released fourteen beautiful, poetic CDs which explore – with richness, variety and through diverse ensembles – what it is to play the blue harp with Brazilian soul. These include contemporary jazz interpretations of Brazilian standards; Brazilian versions of classical greats; original compositions; and in-depth explorations of samba and bossa nova.
It’s the warm pulse of Bossa Nova that will blow out your winter chills in Cristina’s workshop, between 2 – 5PM on February 7th. This course will introduce you to the fundamental principles of bossa nova, and provide you with ways to interpret, harmonise and improvise on well-known songs. At 6PM, Cristina will take to the Espace Camac stage together with Ricardo Medeiros (bass) – for an avant-premier of their latest release: The Bossa Nova Brandenburg Concerto, recorded with the Brandenburg Symphoniker, and due to be released on Enja Deutschland in March.
