The Seventh International Harp Competition in Szeged
Latest
January 6, 2025
The Seventh International Harp Competition, Szeged, has announced its programme! This much-loved competition was founded by Natalia Gorbunova in 2007, and her daughter Anastasia Razvalyaeva took over as Artistic Director in 2019.
All competitions are full of uncertainty, but if you go for Szeged you can certainly be sure of a warm welcome, lovely and useful set works, and a beautiful setting in Szeged’s Reök Palace.
There are three competition categories: 14 and under, 19 and under and 25 and under, and the competition always celebrates a Hungarian composer and a major harp repertoire composer. For the seventh edition, the event will celebrate two significant anniversaries: the 150th anniversary of the births of Henriette Renié and Maurice Ravel (both born in 1875), and the 50th anniversary of the passing of Marcel Grandjany (who died in 1975).
To support Hungarian composers, the 14 and under program requires a performance of Ákos Zarándy’s Leaves (2023). In a similar vein, the 19 and under category requires applicants to prepare Márton Levente Horváth’s Versets for an Imaginary Vespers (2023).
Comprehensive information about rules, prizes, programmes and deadlines are available here on the competition’s webpage. You’ll also find the entry form, including upload details for the video preliminary round. The closing date for applications is September 15th, 2025.
We are very proud to again be principal sponsors of this sincere and supportive event. Camac harps will be in situ throughout the competition for you to practice and perform on. The Camac team wishes you all – now, and when we see you in Szeged – the very best of luck!
