Type “Singapore” or “Rave Harps” into this blog’s search box and you can feast your eyes on all sorts of inspiring projects. When Katryna Tan was herself a young harpist, there was almost no harp in Singapore. She had to travel for eight hours by road for lessons! On returning from her conservatoire studies in the USA, she therefore founded her own teaching studio. In the twenty years that have followed, Rave Harps has expanded into thriving centres throughout Singapore and Malaysia, with over a hundred students, and alumni heading to the Royal Academy of Music, the Juilliard School, the New England Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, Berlin Universität der Künste, and more.
The international harp world calendar would now no longer be complete without Rave Harps’ great variety of top-quality events. These include the International Prestige Award, performances by the Viva Rave professional ensemble, and the now legendary “Pluck!” harp musicals. The high point of all of these…is HarpFest!
HarpFest VII will now take place between September 8 – 11, 2022. After the long pandemic, its motto is “Dreams beyond the rainbow”. “We have accompanied so many students in their harp dreams”, says Katryna, “and we are looking forward to accompanying many more, throughout the next twenty years.”
At HarpFest VII, Rave Harps will be joined by their colleagues and co-students from Thailand and Indonesia, and guest artists from Europe too. There will be concert appearances and a masterclass with Isabelle Moretti, and we are delighted to sponsor Rossitza Milevska and Cédric Le Donne’s jazz night. The full programme ranges from harp concertos to harp ensembles, and offers some fantastic active performance opportunities.
